Robs Fest, great cause, great line up, great fun
Robs fest, in it’s second year was set up as a brilliant and a highly worthy cause for a fellow associate tragically killed in a skiing accident, but it was so much more than merely a charity fund raiser for a good cause. On the face of it a festival on a school playing field organised by a sixth former really shouldn’t work!…but in an increasingly lase fair ‘bung any old bill together as long as the punters have stumped up the cash’ culture, It was hugely rewarding to be part of such a brilliantly selected, eclectic, excellent line up. Amplified by a soundsystem to rival many of the smaller tents at the much lauded and symaltainiously running Glasto! … particular highlights for us were IMMA and The swan vesta social club but it would be churlish not to give all bands equal credit. The Scratch entered the fray, around 30 mins late, but no one seemed to mind. What was especially exciting for us was the sight of our families lookin on … Not least the kids and The OAP’s so often excluded from gig nights, due mainly to age and volume! Which is a shame certainly from the fact that by association the kids are our biggest fans and actually know the words better than we do! Other notables to mention are Dave (Worm) and the legendary Brian Haynes who stood in admirably as deps for the Glasto’d Filthy! The Scratch as a 6 piece, Yeah baby! Lucky the stage was as impressive at the PA. As the sun beat down it was a greatest hits set received with a warmth equal to the appropriately gorgeous cloudless evening. Said set yeilding one of the best receptions to Wag Potential to date and was followed by a great mini air guitar world championship stage front as a gang of 10 year old lads in the moshpit/British bulldog ruck, (one of which was resplendant in a God Save the Queen t-shirt), taught the grown ups how it should be done! What a great loosener as festival season fast approacheth! Thanks again Hugh, count us in for next year! and big thanks to Simon Waterpolo for tipping us off in the first place.
